For people wanting a career in the countryside, we offer residential volunteer ranger positions of 6 to 12 months' duration. These positions are unwaged, but accommodation is provided, together with training in, eg. use of brushcutters, first aid, etc. Completing a volunteer ranger placement with the National Trust is a proven way to get the experience required to gain countryside employment, and the National Trust Lizard Ranger team can offer a varied and fulfilling volunteer role, encompassing everything from practical skills to education and events.

Many employers offer their workforce the chance to undertake a few days volunteering in work time, to try something new, to give something back to the community, and to spend time out together in a different context. You could join us for an enjoyable day on the cliffs, cutting and burning gorse, or in the woods coppicing hazel. All tools and biscuits provided! If you are based further afield, why not consider renting our bunkhouse at Penrose, in walking distance of the local pub, for a memorable and worthwhile few days away from the office.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust offer full-time nature reserve volunteer (trainee warden) positions. Become one of the team of full time volunteers working both independently and alongside staff out on our nature reserves. By joining us you will support the work of the mid and West Cornwall Reserves Officers and develop your knowledge and skills in practical habitat and reserve management. You'll benefit from a training package to meet your needs, including theory and vocational courses, such as qualifications in chainsaw, tractor, first aid, brushcutter and pesticides. A passion for nature conservation, a commitment of 12 months, and a full UK driving licence are essential. Previous experience and a relevant qualification are desirable.
