A collaboration of coast and countryside organisations on The Lizard Peninsula

Within a year, eight sites had been cleared of scrub by the volunteers. Most of the sites were Scheduled Monuments at risk and in declining condition as a result of scrub and bracken growth. These included the Dry Tree, Traboe North and Croft Pascoe barrows, Kynance Gate prehistoric settlement, the Three Brothers of Grugwith, Poldowrian hut circle, Polcoverack prehistoric settlement and field system, Carminow Mill, Chynalls Point cliff castle and Ruan Major Church.

From January 2014 instead of a 12 month clear-up schedule clear-ups will be confined to the Autumn - Spring period only and focus on just 3 or 4 main sites - Kynance Gate, Polcoverack, Croft Pascoe barrow, and Traboe North barrows. Instead of a different site each month, we will concentrate on one main site and work on that for several months until completed.

We are planning to start with Polcoverack prehistoric settlement in January and February 2014 and are initially looking at January 21st or 28th, and February 11th or 18th as possible dates for the clear ups which will be led by Bart O'Farrell of LAN.
