The natural landscape consists of a mixture of arable fields, pasture, heath and willow scrub. There is a meandering stream that defines much of the western border of the reserve. There is also a variety of ponds and scrapes - ranging from the nationally significant Ruan Pool to man made scrapes. Thus the reserve provides interest to naturalists of all varieties! It is also a lovely place to escape to and enjoy fantastic Cornish country scenes.

To find Windmill Farm follow the A3083 Lizard road (from Helston). A mile and a half past the turning for Mullion look out for a sign that says "Wild Camping" on the right hand side - follow the lane down to the Farm. Grid reference: SW 694 153.
