A collaboration of coast and countryside organisations on The Lizard Peninsula

All of the Lizard falls within the South Coast Western section of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Cornwall AONB is one single protected area, split up into 12 separate parts. These make up the very best of Cornwall. The Cornwall AONB covers an area of 958 sq km or 370 sq miles – well over a quarter of the county. It is one of 46 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK and was designated in 1959.

AONBs, along with National Parks, represent the most outstanding examples of countryside in England and Wales. Importantly, an AONB has the same status and protection as a National Park. The Cornwall AONB is managed by a partnership of 15 organisations supported by a small team of professionals.
